Sullivan Co. mayor releases applicants’ names, pays paper’s legal bills; paper drops open records lawsuit

The Kingsport Times-News has dropped its lawsuit against Sullivan County Mayor Steve Godsey after Godsey released the names of the applicants for head of the county’s EMS service and paid the newspaper’s legal fees, the newspaper reports.


TCOG weighs in on Monroe Co. autopsy report left in limbo

TCOG Executive Director Frank Gibson was quoted by the Knoxville News-Sentinel on the repeated delays in granting access to the autopsy report in a high-profile homicide investigation — that of Monroe County Election Commission Chairman Jim Miller:

“And there is a deadline of seven days to respond,” said Frank Gibson, executive director of the Tennessee Coalition for Open Government. “That deadline was put in there to stop such shenanigans as (simply ignoring a request).”

Tennessee Coalition for Open Government President Frank Gibson said someone would have to prove that the three commissioners discussed city business before they could face Open Meetings Law violations.

“But there’s no excuse this close to Election Day for them to create an appearance that they have violated the law,” Gibson said.

Tennessee Coalition for Open Government Executive Director Frank Gibson was quoted by the Chattanooga Times-Free Press, calling for the release of e-mails by a Hamilton County worker that showed he was engaged in a side business on county time and using county e-mail resources.
